Marketing is a very important aspect of filmmaking and often times can cost as much as the film production. HowStuffWorks claims it to be about $35.9 million per film. So what can filmmakers on a much lower budget, or no budget, do in order to market their film? The first obvious thing that comes to mind is using social media. However the largest problem with social media is that Social Media connects you only to people you know or people who know you. So how can you reach people who have never heard of you? I've tried some social media marketing in the past, however a $1 gets you about 200 post views and out of those views, only 1 actually clicked on the link.
