You might be thinking right now that there's no way that only 4 steps will make me a better, more successful person, and well your sort of right but if you can achieve all of these 4 steps everyday, eventually you will become a better, more successful person. These might not be the only factors and I may only be 18 years old but I have seen that these 4 steps have at least helped and definitely worked so far. 1) Conquer Yourself You might think that the first step is to accomplish goals or to plan things but I think that success starts in yourself. This is kind of a two sided step. The first part is to conquer your problems such as shyness, addiction, or even character flaws you believe you have. Now this is a lot easier to said than done but, it's all about conquering your fears and the part of yourself that wants to be complacent and just settle for where it is. You have to push harder than your body's inertia to stay where it is. The second part of conquering yourself is to simply stay motivated to succeed and to change into a better person. 2) Acquire Skills I think that this is a very important step in becoming successful. Your teachers may have told you that it's always important to learn but learning is much more important than you realize. And I'm not just talking about going to college but just self educating yourself on what your interested in. Like reading this blog your currently reading or watching how-to youtube videos. 3) Accomplish Goals Now that you have some skills, it's important to put them to use. In this step you would need to plan out how you want to reach where you want to be in small reasonable steps that get you closer and closer to your dreams. But remember you can't expect to reach them overnight. Many people say it takes several years of preparation to become an overnight success. 4) Analyze Yourself This step may seem very easy to do and it is but many people simply skip over this. Analyzing your self helps you understand where you've come from, where your going and also most importantly how you need to change to get where you want to go. It is extremely important to analyze yourself and straighten out your goals and what you need to improve on, so that you know where to focus your energy. While becoming a better, more successful person is fairly easy in general concepts but most of the time it's the small everyday actions that make the difference. Emailing people on craigslist for film jobs may not seem like it will do anything after 20 people don't email you back. But it's worth it for the 21st person who does. So take some advice from Gareth Edwards, the director of the new Godzilla and Monsters, "the trick is to never give up... I think the secret of success is not how little you get knocked down but how often you get back up." "the trick is to never give up... It's amazing what you can accomplish in one day. This short film was shot and edited in one day. I think it came out fairly good considering that. Recently I have worked on a short documentary about the local pregnancy center for a local film fest. It was very different working on a documentary rather than a narrative. Watch the Film bellow. The odd thing was I didn't really have a vision or define script for the film. I really just interviewed the main people involved and then took their stories and thoughts and molded it into a film. This workflow was kind of scary when I went to edit because I had no idea how it would turn out. Unlike most films, It was almost completely created in the edit which was interesting. Another cool thing I learned because I sometimes had only one camera angle to work with and wanted to cut something out, I learned to do a push in digitally. It seemed to add a lot of quality even the resolution is slightly less during the push ins, it's kind of hard to notice if you don't focus on it.
Well that's it. What do you think of the film? Any Questions about the film? You may already know about the rode reel contest rode is sponsoring which has thousands of dollars in prizes however what you may not have notices is that they have an entire series of video tutorials for everything you need to know for creating a short film. Now it doesn't hit all the tiny details you need to know, it hits all of the main ideas and is a good refresher even for seasoned filmmakers. Sorry I haven't posted anything recently, I've been busy working on my upcoming project, so stay tuned for more about that. But it the mean time here's some Creative Commons Songs I made for the project. As well as a new logo for the production company, Riverside Studios. It's nice to make some new logos and songs, and plans for new films, but the most important part of about making films is actually making them.
